Located 55 miles north of Klawock, a 2-hour drive from Hollis/ferry terminal. Population: 176. Emergency Services: Coffman Cove Fire/EMS, phone (907)  329-2254. See wildlife including black bears, Sitka blacktail deer, whales, herons, Steller’s sea lions and incredible bird watching while you enjoy hiking, kayaking, fishing or boating. Coffman Cove has a public library with WiFi; a coffee shop (seasonal) serving various coffee, tea, smoothies, or the Riggin Shack a small general merchandise and grocery store; the Doghouse Saloon and Liquor store; or the Bait Box (seasonal) which serves hamburgers and sandwiches. R&R Fuels has gas, diesel and propane. Guided ocean charters are available. Coffman Cove is the only community on the north end of Prince of Wales Island that is accessible by paved road. It is also connected to Wrangell, Petersburg and Ketchikan via the Rainforest Islands Ferry. (See “Ferry Travel” in the TRAVEL PLANNING section, or check with the City of Coffman Cove for details.)


It is also the site of a large archaeological project where researchers in partnership with the Stikine Tlingit Tribe are excavating the site of a principal village of the Stikine Tlingit people with settlement dating from 9,000 BC. The Canoe Lagoon Oyster Co. here is the state’s oldest and largest oyster producer; fresh oysters available locally at the Riggin Shack and the Doghouse Saloon and Liquor Store. Coffman Cove has a post office (open 1–3:30 p.m. weekdays except Wednesdays when it is open from 5–7:30 p.m.). Oceanview RV Park/Campground, on the beach, which also offers full-hookup RV sites and bunkhouse accommodations. There is a public dock and a boat launch. The Harbormaster’s phone is (907) 329-2233.
