John Luther Adams, composer long associated with Alaska, wins Pulitzer Prize

Composer John Luther Adams, a former Alaskan, has won the 2014 Pulitzer Prize for music, announced Monday.

Adams was honored for his large orchestral piece "Become Ocean," which was premiered on June 20, 2013, by the Seattle Symphony. The statement from the Pulitzer committee called it "a haunting orchestral work that suggests a relentless tidal surge, evoking thoughts of melting polar ice and rising sea levels."
